Experiments

Radical experiments in participatory and regenerative practices across art, science, design.

Key words: futures, speculative art, nature connection, regenerative practices, participatory art

About

Alongside my design practice, I work as a professional artist.

Through this practice, I explore participation and ritual, experiment with different ways of experiencing time, and develop new methods to deepen connections between humans, other living species, and ecological systems.

Currently, my work focuses on wind, trees, and moss.

These artistic experiments offer me the space, time, and creative freedom to play and explore radical new approaches, unrestricted by external briefs.

My practice allows me to delve into how we can tap more deeply into our imaginations, connect with collective dreams, and build richer, more-than-human relationships.

Enquiry areas and learnings

How can I build regenerative methods into my art and design practices, in a way that feels both impactful and authentic?

A key focus is gaining a deeper understanding of natural systems to inspire how we can design more effective and sustainable human-made systems.

I also recognise that artists and designers have different "permissions" when engaging the public in participatory programs. There’s so much these disciplines can learn from one another.

The insights I gain directly inform my design consultancy practice and shape my thought leadership in health, wellbeing and environmental and climate-based projects.

Let's connect

Mossibilities

I co-run 'Mossibililities' - participatory art and ecology nature connection experiences with artist Lucy Jane MacAllister Dukes.

We dive deep into the world of moss, working with it, observing it and reflecting on what we can learn from it. We play with embodied methods, with the space and time to imagine and dream about the past, present and future. We undertake sensory explorations around moss and co-create group artworks, stories and poetry around moss.

Mossibilities is a test-bed for creating and prototyping radical interdisciplinary, participatory and regenerative practices.

Stemflow

I recently exhibited my artwork Stemflow at the Royal Geographical Society, London.

Stemflow explores the 'rivers' that run down trees. It explores how we can reframe our thinking about natural systems and understand the interconnectedness of regenerative systems in nature.
